DMT –  Use the Data migration tool to migrate from Dynamics AX 2009 to finance and operations – Part 2

  1. From where you have extracted the zip file look for “defaultvalue.xlsx” file.

Please note the file is saved as .xlsx. Please save as .xlsx and do not change the extension. When you give this as an input to the Default Configuration parameter value in the next step, select All Files to select .xlsx file. Failure to follow this step will cause downstream errors during generate mappings.

2. Sample parameters shown below

  • Default config (step 1 excel path)
  • Export and import path (Server path which can be accessed by service)
  • SQL User (AX 2009 Data base sql authentication credentials)
  • DIXF service host name : DIXF service installation host name,
  • Dynamics 365 for operations:
    • Parameters to connect to target D365 Finance and operations services.

  Tenant url : Refer to the D365 FNO web.config file if not sure of the tenant

Multibox setup

• Machine A – AX 2009 Database & DIXF service
• Machine B – AX 2009 AOS
• Machine C – AX 2009 Client

Here the AX Client (Machine C) is configured to connect to the AOS in Machine B, which in turn connected to the database configured in Machine A.

DIXF Service machine Prerequisite: Machine A

• SQL Server 2008/2012/2014
• Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5
• Access database engines

  1. For SQL 2008 – Access engine 32 bit & 64 bit( If Excel is 64 bit)
  2. For SQL 2012 or higher – Access engine 64 bit
    • AX 2009 database (configured on SQL server)

AOS machine Prerequisite: Machine B

• AX 2009 AOS Server
• Application files

Client machine Prerequisite: Machine C

• AX 2009 Client

Permission for the shared folder :

Default configuration & Export package file path – Both file path should be shared & R/W access should be provided for the DIXF Service & Client users

Data migration >Configuration> Generate maps form

Validate path : To validate if required access is available

Parameters Setup in Client

Setup DIXF Service host in the Data migration >Configuration> Generate maps form

DIXF service host : Input the remote machine name , where the DIXF Service is install (By default, it will be localhost)

Validate path : To validate if the client is able to access the DIXF service, hosted remotely

Workarounds:

Error : DIXF service is unavailable

Workaround:  Open the port 7000 to allow the service connection

  1. Inbound Rules:
    1. In DMT Service machine , change firewall settings to enable connection for the port 7000
    1. Go to firewall settings. Run> wf.msc

Setup using standard setup.

  • Click ‘Finish’
  • Repeat the same for Outbound Rules
